IVF Treatment Success in Poland
How effective is the IVF treatment? This is one of the first questions that arise when choosing a fertility clinic. In vitro procedures are expensive and if you’ve been waiting to have a baby for a long time, you rightly want to maximise your chances of success. With numerous European clinics to choose from, it can be complicated. What are the success rates in different countries? As a newly popular destination, how does IVF treatment in Poland compare?
IVF in Poland has one of the highest success rates in all Europe. 35.2% of in vitro fertilisation procedures are successful per treatment cycle. Poland is followed by Spain (33.8%), the UK (30.9%), Germany (27.9%) and Italy (24.1%). These are official results from a study in 2010 by the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE), the European body governing fertility treatments in Europe. They compare treatment cycles using various in vitro techniques (IVF, ICSI and IMSI) and it includes women from all age groups.
As compared to the rest of Europe, where the average success rate is 33.2%,Polish clinics do very well. It is understandable that Polish clinics are emerging as a top destination for fertility treatments abroad. - Robert Gizler, MD, gynaecology and obstetrics specialist, InviMed Fertility Clinics
But there are fertility clinics which achieve better results. Where can they be found? How do they do it?
Effective treatment can be found in most European countries. But, the most successful clinics share 2 things:
- a highly experienced medical and embryology team,
- the methods and techniques used to diagnose and treat patients.
Medical & Embryology Team
The team that treats you should comprise specialists across all the fertility medical fields. This means embryologists, gynecologists, urologists, psychologists and dieteticians In general, more years of experience correlate to better results so it is desirable to have at least a senior doctor with 10 years of experience in charge of your treatment. Clinics of any size may have such a team, but it is typically easier for larger clinics which have existed for longer to do so.
Methods & Techniques
Technology is constantly advancing which both improve your chances to get pregnant and have a healthy baby. Polish clinics have readily embraced these new techniques and procedures. This means you can find the latest and best procedures in Poland.
What are some example technologies? Why are they relevant?
- There are 2 technologies that most deserve mentioning:Embryo observation systems, like EmbryoVision. Our embrologists use this technology to observe the developing embryo around-the-clock after IVF. It means they can select the most promising embryo which boosts your chances of becoming pregnant by 8-12%.
- PGD and PGS genetic examinations. PGD and PGS help to ensure your baby is healthy and does not suffer from a number of conditions. They are performed after IVF and before the embryos are implanted in the woman’s uterus.
The PGD examination helps rule out disorders, such as mucoviscidosis, sickle cell anaemia, Huntington's disease, William's syndrome or Duchenne muscular dystrophy. Meanwhile, PGS (aCGH) detects chromosomal irregularities as well as various syndromes, including: Down Patau, Down, Edwards, Klinefelter, Turner and Trisomy X.
These technologies are usually recommended to patients over 35 years of age, and those who have experienced repeated failed embryo implantation or miscarriages. The latest research has shown that PGS increases the chance of becoming pregnant in 55-70% of cases. InviMed performs the examinations in cooperation with IGENOMIX, a company which operates as part of Valencia University in Spain, which is one of the most famous centres in the world offering advanced services in the field of reproductive genetics.
What else?
It is important to check that procedures are conducted in line with international safety standards like ESHRE or American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM). Clinics in Poland nearly universally meet one or both standards. Locally, the Polish Society for Reproductive Medicine (PTMR) governs practices. However, you may ask what processes the clinic has implemented to exceed them.
Ensuring no mistakes are made is also crucial for patient care. This is we have implemented a ‘double checking’ process at InviMed. This means a patient’s data is always checked by two specialists at every stage of the treatment.
InviMed Fertility Clinics are recognised as a top fertility clinic in Europe with among the highest success rates in Europe. 43% of our patients become pregnant after the first IVF procedure - 65% using egg donation.
